Are you expecting delicate love songs? Flower child-appropriate lullabies of sweet swooning? Take that description and douse it in colourful paint.
Sky Ferreira; a 17-year-old from The City of Lost Angels, she wears nonchalance with composure and rocks big hair full of not-so-secret talent.
Her tracks mix mature vocals with pseudo-Euro beats, indie pop-rock-electro-serenades and golden California influence. Lyrics of longing, dreaming, and rebellion, Sky professes teenage angst and self-knowing in poetics, sourcing The Beatles‘ “Happiness is a warm gun” meshed with melodies from Dr. Dre. Songs are aptly titled Femme Fatale, Teen Lovers, and Great Mistake.
Between cameos for Uffie and hanging out with Katy Perry, Sky is the girl at the other end of the room who you’ve always wanted to talk to. (Because she’s too-cool-for-school, yet totally the smartest chick in class.)
Lookout for new track 17, coming to a coming-of-age fantasy near you. Debut album to follow.
